Abstract

ABSTRACT The bacteriological assessment of outdoor air of Gadau market, Itas Gadau L.G.A, Bauchi Sstate Nigeria was undertaken in this study. Bacteriological analyses of Air samples from Gadau Market waswere carried out on a market day using standard microbiological methods between julyJuly and August, 2025 to determine their bacteriological content. Air samples were collected using the settle plate method and analyzed with standard microbiological techniques[h1.1] (Cuthbertson & Pearce, 2017). A total of five samples were obtained and incubated for bacterial growth. The results revealed colony counts ranging between 27–38 CFU/ml. Six (6) bacterial species were identified, including Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp., Bacillus spp., Enterococcus spp., and Pseudomonas spp. The frequency of occurrence showed S. aureus (30%) as the most prevalent species, followed by Bacillus spp. (20%) and E. coli (20%). The presence of these organisms indicates a potential risk of airborne transmission of pathogens within the market environment (Ozougwu et al., 2021). This study highlights the importance of continuous monitoring of air quality in public places and recommends improved sanitation practices and personal protective measures to reduce risks of airborne infections
