PHYSIOLOGICAL EFFECT OF SALT STRESS ON THE GROWTH AND GERMINATION OF BAMBARA GROUNDNUT LANDRACE (VIGNA SUBTERRANEA)
Abstract
This research focuses on The physiological impact of NaCl salinity on seed germination, growth, of two bambara groundnut landraces (Vigna subterranea (L.) Verdc), farin gujiya (cream seed coat) and koren gujiya (brown seed coat), were investigated with the aim of establishing traits, which can provide a basis for breeding to salt tolerance in bambara groundnuts. A study was conducted under a growth chamber conditions. Bambara groundnut seeds were subjected to four concentrations of NaCl solutions with several electrical conductivities: 0 (control), 2.63, 5.25 and 7.88g. Germination rate, number of leafs, plant height, and leaf area were determined. Sodium chloride salinity (p
