Abstract

ABSRACT Height determination is a crucial aspect of geodetic and engineering surveys, as it plays a significant role in construction, mapping, and other spatial analyses. This study presents a comparative analysis of height determination methods using Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS), Total Station (for Orthometric height), and Geodetic Leveling (Classical method) which serve as base of comparison of Apitipiti via Awe to Akinmoorin, Oyo East/Afijio local government area Oyo state. The research aims to evaluate the accuracy, efficiency, and reliability of these methods in different terrains and environmental conditions. Data collection was conducted using DGPS for ellipsoidal heights, trigonometric heightening using Total Station, which are capable of high accuracy by observing vertical angles and distances, The project was carried out using the basic survey principles and methods. The major survey operation includes reconnaissance which involves field and office reconnaissance, then data acquisition which involves Total station traversing, Geodetic levelling to determine height of points also trigonometric heightening to determine heights of points, GNSS observation to determine the heights of points and detailing. The obtained results from the field were computed and adjusted according to specification and results were analyzed and found to be within the expected accuracy. The height differences were computed, analyzed and compared. Finally, information presentation was done digitally to show the points on which heights were determined at a suitable scale.
