Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research investigated the effective performance of the traffic signal installed in the city of Ado Ekiti in Nigeria by employing multiple linear regression. A comprehensive survey was carried out on a sample of 250 city drivers to identify and quantify the factors influencing the effective performance of the traffic signals installed. A total of twelve independent variables were considered in the study. The data collected were analyzed to develop models through the application of multiple linear multiple regression. The models developed were based on the independent variables of the fuel cost, trip time, road network, road network, road width, speed limits, motor vehicle emission, city population, and vehicle ownership. The results showed that all the independent variables have a significant influence on the effective performance of the traffic signals in the city. The findings of this study provide useful information for city planners and local government on the effective performance of traffic signals and how traffic signal installation should be planned for the city.
