Abstract

This study examined the body composition characteristics of all registered male basketball players in Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo, during the 2023/2024 academic session. male basketball players at Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo. Data were collected on key body composition variables including height, weight, body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage, lean body mass, and total body water. Descriptive statistics revealed that the players had a healthy average BMI of 23.0 and low average body fat percentage of 12.1%, consistent with profiles of trained athletes. Analysis by playing position showed that centers had higher BMI, body fat, and lean mass compared to guards and forwards, reflecting the physical demands of their role. Inferential analysis indicated a significant positive correlation between BMI and body fat percentage (r = 0.67, p = 0.001), and a significant difference in body fat based on playing experience (F = 4.85, p = 0.015), with more experienced players showing lower fat levels. These findings suggest that body composition varies with positional roles and experience level in basketball, highlighting the need for position-specific training and conditioning programs to enhance athletic performance
