EFFECT OF SENNA ALATA LEAF AQUEOUS EXTRACT ON THE SERUM BIOCHEMICAL INDICES AND IMMUNITY OF BROILER CHICKEN
Abstract
This study investigated the effects of Senna alata leaf extract on serum biochemical parameters in chicks and immune responses in broiler chickens. A total of (200) day-old chicks were randomly allocated into experimental groups and administered graded levels of S. alata leaf extract through drinking water, alongside a control group. Blood samples were collected at predetermined intervals for Immunological indices such as antibody titers against Newcastle disease virus (NDV) and infectious bursal disease (IBD) were also assessed. At the end of the experiment blood samples was collected from the jugular vein for biochemical analysis, including total protein, albumin, globulin, cholesterol, glucose, and liver enzyme markers (ALT, AST, ALP).
Results showed that S. alata supplementation significantly influenced serum biochemical profiles, with moderate inclusion levels improving protein fractions and reducing serum cholesterol, cholesterol had the highest level at ( T5 with 203.7) while maintaining liver enzyme activities within normal physiological ranges. Furthermore, broilers receiving S. alata extract demonstrated enhanced antibody titers, suggesting immune ( week 1 T3 with 6.33 , week 2 T1 6.33 and week 5 T4 has the lowest1.67) stimulatory effects. The findings indicate that S. alata leaf extract may serve as a natural growth-promoting and immunomodulatory agent in poultry production, potentially reducing reliance on synthetic antibiotics and improving overall flock health.
