EXTRACTION AND CHARACTARIZATION AND EPOXIDATION OF SOYBEANS OIL
Abstract
oybean oil is one of the most widely produced and consumed vegetable oils globally. The major
soybean oil-producing countries include China, the United States, Brazil, Argentina, and India
(FAO, 2021; USDA, 2022).
9∙ China leads soybean oil production with around 28% of the global output (USDA, 2023). In
2022/23, China produced approximately 17.74 million metric tons of soybean oil (Statista,
2023).
∙ The United States is the second-largest soybean oil producer, accounting for about 20% of
global production (FAO, 2021). In 2022/23, the United States produced around 12.3 million
metric tons (USDA, 2023).
∙ Brazil ranks third in soybean oil production, contributing 17% of global production (FAO,
2021). Brazil produced approximately 10.8 million metric tons in 2022/23 (Statista, 2023).
∙ Argentina is the fourth-largest soybean oil producer globally, with a share of 11% (FAO,
2021). In 2022/23, Argentina's soybean oil production reached 7.01 million metric tons
(USDA, 2023).
Global soybean oil production has seen a steady increase over the years due to the growing
demand for vegetable oils in food, feed, and industrial applications. In the 2022/23 crop year,
global soybean oil production was estimated at around 59.18 million metric tons, with a forecast
to reach 61.12 million metric tons in 2023/24 (Statista, 2023; USDA, 2023). However, soybean
oil production is subject to wea
