ROLE OF ISLAMIYYA SCHOOLS IN PREPARING THE CHILD FOR FUTURE LIFE CHALLENGES
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Education is universally recognized as a fundamental tool for preparing individuals for the challenges of life. It is not merely a process of acquiring literacy but also of instilling discipline, values, and life skills that enable the learner to thrive in society. In the Islamic context, education is regarded as a holistic process that nurtures both the spiritual and intellectual aspects of human development. Islamiyya schools popularly established across Nigeria play a central role in actualizing this vision by focusing on Qur’anic memorization, Islamic jurisprudence, moral instruction, and general ethical conduct of children. The role of Islamiyya schools in preparing children for future life challenges has been a subject of debate and concern. Despite their important role in many Muslim communities, these schools face a variety of challenges that may limit their effectiveness. One of the primary issues is the lack of adequate funding and resources. Many Islamiyya schools are underfunded and lack the necessary equipment, facilities, and educational materials to provide a comprehensive and engaging learning experience. This study "the role of Islamiyya schools in preparing the child for future life challenges" holds significant importance for a number of reasons. First and foremost, it can help to improve the quality of education provided by these schools. By gaining a deeper understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of Islamiyya education, policymakers and educators can develop strategies to enhance the effectiveness of these schools and ensure that students receive a well-rounded education that prepares them for the challenges of the 21st century. Based on the findings of this research, the following recommendations are proposed: Enhance Teacher Training Programs: Develop comprehensive training programs that focus on both pedagogical skills and moral education to better prepare teachers for their roles in Islamiyya schools, Strengthen Curriculum Integration: Update and integrate the curriculum to include a balance of Islamic values and academic subjects, ensuring that students receive a well-rounded education, Increase Financial Support: Provide additional funding for Islamiyya schools to support teacher salaries, educational resources, and school infrastructure and Promote Collaboration: Foster partnerships between Islamiyya schools and mainstream educational institutions to share best practices and enhance educational outcomes.
