Abstract

This research work investigated the influence of different classroom management styles on students’ academic performance in Bekwarra Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria. Three null hypotheses were formulated to direct the study. The study took the survey research design approach while the simple random technique was used in selecting the representative sample. Data were generated using a structured questionnaire, which was administered to 209 respondents. Collated data were subjected for analysis using simple linear regression analysis. All the hypothesse were tested for significance at the 0.05 alpha level. The result of the analysis revealed that all the sub-variates of the independent variable i.e. classroom management style, autocratic management style and ~ democratic management styles did not show any statistical significance with the dependent variable. Based on these findings, it was concluded that differential classroom management styles do not significantly influence students’ academic performance, particularly in Bekwarra Local Government Area while recommendation among others was that teachers should be more democratic in their classroom 3 management styles to enable students develop positive attitudes towards studies. It was suggested amongst others that there is need to replicate the study using a wider study area as well as larger sample-size for better generalization of findings.
