INFLUENCE OF SELF-REGULATION, SELF-ESTEEM AND TEST-ANXIETY ON THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN PHYSICS STUDENTS IN UKANAFUN LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA
Abstract
ABSTRACT
The objective of the study was to determine the Influence of self regulation, self esteem and test anxiety on students’ academic performance in Physics in senior secondary schools in Ukanafun Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. Three research questions and three null hypotheses were used for the study. The researcher made instrument titled: Physics Self-Regulation, Self-Esteem and Test Anxiety Questionnaire (PSRSETAQ) was validated by experts and used for data collection. The reliability of the instrument was determined using Cronbach’s alpha reliability test. A reliability coefficient of 0.70 was obtained and considered high enough to put the instrument to use for data collection in the study. A sample size of 100 Physics students was obtained from five schools randomly selected from nine public secondary schools in the study Area. The data generated from the completed and retrieved instrument were analysed using mean and independent t-test statistics. From data analysis, findings showed that self regulation, self esteem and test anxiety all had significant influence on student’s academic performance in Physics. Based on findings, it was recommended among others that teachers should adopt teaching strategies that would stimulate students’ self-regulation and self-esteem in the teaching and learning process.
