Abstract

ABSTRACT The term resort centres may be used for a hotel property that provides an array of amenities, typically including entertainment and recreational activities. Resorts are energy-consuming due to the adoption of foreign ideas that are alien to the environment, people and culture in order to achieve maximum leisure. This problem is compounded by non-functional designs which hardly cope with the climatic conditions and design requirements of their regions. Therefore, this design will address these environmental problems by applying the techniques of passive cooling. Passive cooling is a system whereby a building's structure is designed to permit increased ventilation and retention of coolness within the building components. The intention is to minimize or eliminate the need for mechanical means of cooling. This project will focus on the application of passive cooling techniques in the design of a three star recreational resort centre within Maiduguri axis. The building will be multi-storey and there’ll be spaces for outdoor activities like game halls, game courts, event halls, children playground, gardens etc.
