Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolical disease characterized by a deficiency in insulin production and its action or both which leads to prolonged hyperglycemia with disturbances in most metabolic process inside the human body. The study is aimed to investigate the influence of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis flower extract on fructose bisphosphatase and Heme oxygenase gene expression in the liver of STZ- induced diabetic rats. Forty-two male wistar rats were divided into 7 groups: normal control, diabetic control, sildenafil (100mg/kg),HB (50mg/kg), HB (100mg/kg), HB (200mg/kg), HB (1000mg/kg). Diabetes was induced by intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin(65/kg). The treatment was administered for a total of 2 1 days. The liver mRNA expression of antioxidant gene FBPase and HO-I were investigated using reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Furthermore, the fasting blood sugar and the weight of the experimental animals was investigated. Oral administration of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis flower extract (50 and 100mg/kg) to STZinduced diabetic rats significantly (p
