Abstract

ABSTRACT Goodpasture syndrome (GPS), also known as anti–glomerular basement membrane disease, is a rare autoimmune disease in which antibodies attack the basement membrane in lungs and kidneys, leading to bleeding from the lungs, glomerulonephritis, and kidney failure. (Thibaud, V et al 2019)It is thought to attack the alpha-3 subunit of type IV collagen, which has therefore been referred to as Goodpasture's antigen. (Sanghera, P et. al 2012) Goodpasture syndrome may quickly result in permanent lung and kidney damage, often leading to death. (Kathuria, P et. al 2017)It is treated with medications that suppress the immune system such as corticosteroids and cyclophosphamide, and with plasmapheresis, in which the antibodies are removed from the blood. (Thibaud, V et al 2019) The above table shows that 58% of my respondents are not aware that good pasture syndrome is a disease that affect kidney and lung, while 42% of them are aware that good pasture syndrome is a disease that affect kidney and lung which goes in line with study carried out by Robson Felix where about 60% of his respondents are that good pasture syndrome is a disease of kidney and the lung but contrary to the research carried out by Akinyele in Ogun state where more than half of his respondents are not aware of good pasture syndrome, of showing the level of awareness of my respondents, 68% of my respondents said it’s true that good pasture syndrome is an autoimmune disorder, while 32% of them said it’s not true that good pasture syndrome is an autoimmune disorder, also 72% of my respondents do not know that good pasture syndrome tackle the glomerular basement membrane of the body, while 28% of them know that good pasture syndrome tackle the glomerular basement membrane of in the body which helps me to know that most of my respondents do not know much about good pasture syndrome, this is also related with the WHO conclusions on health workers knowledge of Glomerular basement membrane disease in 2020, where it was written in their 2020 journal on GBM that majority of health worker are not sensitive in identifying GBM disorders(WHO, 2020).
