ELECTRICAL STABILITY OF WATER HYACINTH TREATED MUD.
Abstract
This project investigates the electrical stability of water-based mud treated with water hyacinth, a locally available and sustainable plant material. The study aims to evaluate the effect of varying concentrations of water hyacinth on the electrical stability, viscosity, and other theological properties of drilling mud. Standard laboratory methods were employed to prepare mud samples with different water hyacinth percentages, and electrical stability tests were conducted to assess their performance under controlled conditions. The results indicate that the addition of water hyacinth enhances the electrical stability of the mud up to an optimal concentration, beyond which the stability tends to plateau or slightly decrease. The findings suggest that water hyacinth can serve as an environmentally friendly additive for improving the performance of water-based drilling mud, offering a cost-effective alternative to conventional additives. This study contributes to the understanding of natural plant-based additives in drilling fluid formulation and provides recommendations for further research on optimizing mud performance using locally sourced materials.
