Abstract

ABSTRACT The demand for energy and related services to support human welfare, health, and economic and social growth is fast growing. The extraction of fossil fuels underpins the global economy, which poses a severe threat to the environment and society due to global warming and other environmental hazards. The use of "green technology" is a scientific knowledge and industrial know-how with the goal of having a reduced effect on the natural environment. This technology does not contribute to the emission of greenhouse gases and solar energy is a form of environmentally friendly technology. In this design and implementation, a total of six (6) offices with seven (7) energy consuming devices were considered for the solar powered system. The load design analysis shows that the total wattage for the frequently and occasionally used loads is 2164watts while the daily energy requirements for the same loads equals 17313Watts/hr The total required volt-ampere in addition to redundancy (allowance) is approximately 3kva. This analysis therefore, gives the required and suitable solar powered inverter rating of 3kva, two (2) number of 12v batteries, 12 number of 400w solar panels.
