COMPARISON OF ELECTROCARDIOGRAM (ECG) PARAMETERS AND MORPHOLOGIES AMONG ATHLETES (FOOTBALLERS) AND NON-ATHLETES OF BAUCHI STATE UNIVERSITY GADAU
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Competitive sports training cause’s structural and conducting system changes manifesting by various electrocardiographic alterations. We conducted this study to assess the ECG parameters and morphologies among sportsmen (Footballers) and non-athletes (Sedentary people) in trained Nigerian athletes of Bauchi state university Gadau metropolitan, correlating the data with the nature of sports training, that is endurance and sedentary individuals.
Methods: We evaluated a standard resting, lying 12 leads Electrocardiogram (ECG) in 20 actively training athletes and 20 sedentary men (Non-athletes), standard criteria was employed to define various morphological abnormalities in relate with ECG waves duration and amplitude.
Results: Overall 20/40 (50%) of the athletes were undertaking endurance training are found with normal training related changes with p value being (P>0.05) without any statistical significance, other 20/40 (50%) of the non-athletes were having normal Sinoatrial node paced rhythms found to have normal conduction in the electrophysiology of the heart. The statistical set of 0.05 is considered. The blood pressure of the two groups were not significance with p value being (p>0.05). In conclusion, the total of 40/40 (100%) of the participants amplitude and duration findings were found statistically not significance with p value being (p>0.05). This is due to the minimal data was collected and other structural changes of the athletes were not defined due to restrictions to only amplitude and duration
