Abstract

This study assesses the availability, adequacy, and utilization of counselling facilities in secondary schools across Ondo State and examines the relationship between counselling provision, student well-being, and academic achievement. Using a cross-sectional mixed-methods design, quantitative data will be collected from 600 students and 60 school staff (principals/counsellors/teachers) across urban and rural schools using stratified random sampling. Qualitative data will be collected via focus group discussions with students and semi-structured interviews with counsellors. Data analysis will include descriptive statistics, t-tests/ANOVA, chi-square tests, and multiple regression to test the impact of counselling facility adequacy on academic outcomes and well-being indicators. Findings are expected to highlight gaps in infrastructure, human resources, and utilization patterns and to provide evidence-based recommendations for policy and school-level improvements aimed at enhancing student mental health and academic performance.
