Abstract

ABSTRACT This study examines the impact of the New Niger Project on the socioeconomic development of Niger State, using Minna as the case study. The New Niger Project is a government-driven initiative aimed at improving infrastructure, agriculture, education, and community empowerment to raise living standards. The main objective of this research is to assess how the project has influenced economic activities, access to services, and overall development in Minna. The study employed a survey research design, using questionnaires to get information. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to summarize responses and present findings clearly. The findings reveal that the New Niger Project has contributed positively to Minna’s development. Upgraded in roads, improved transportation and market access, while agricultural programs have increased farm productivity and many local businesses reported growth due to better infrastructure. Despite these gains, the study identified challenges such as delayed implementation, weak community participation, and unequal distribution of project benefits. The study concludes that the New Niger Project has a positive impact but recommends stronger monitoring, timely funding, and inclusive participation to ensure equitable and sustainable development
