IMPACT OF MANPOWER TRAINING ON STAFF PRODUCTIVITY IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN NIGERIA (A CASE STUDY OF THE FEDERAL COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, ANKPA, KOGI STATE)
Abstract
This research project examined the Impact of Manpower Training on Staff Productivity in Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria. The case study of the research is the Federal College of Education, Ankpa, Kogi State. Data for the study were both sourced from primary and secondary means. Secondary data for the study consists of journals, textbooks, online sources and other relevant documents. The primary data were generated from structured questionnaire administered to 120 staff of the institutions selected via simple random sampling technique. Their responses were analyzed using frequency distribution tables and simple percentages respectively. The study showed that the staff of the institution attested that training and development programmes if carried out effectively and adequately would impact positively on their levels of productivity and the performance of the institution as a whole. However, the study also revealed that the institution is characterized by inadequate training policy, inadequate funding and low frequency of training and development programmes. Consequently the study concluded that though training is an essential ingredient of staff productivity, it is treated with levity in the institution. To this end, the study recommended the development of a comprehensive, cohesive and articulate manpower training policy, adequate funding of training programmes and increased frequency of training activities in the institution.
