Abstract

ABSTRACT The environment and diet are major routes of Lead (Pb) exposure for humans. Interestingly, several epidemiological data demonstrated an increase in the incidence of alcohol consumption globally. Chemical-chemical interaction subsequent to chemical mixtures exposure may result in a synergism or antagonism effects. The present study investigated the influence of co-exposure to ethanol (EtOH) and Pb on neurobehavioral effects in Wistar rats. The study consisted of six groups of rats that were exposed to drinking water alone, EtOH and Pb alone at 5g/kg and 50 mg/kg body weight, M. pruriens leaves alone, M. pruriens seeds alone, EtOH and Pb + M. pruriens leaves and EtOH and Pb + M. pruriens seeds ad libitium for 14 consecutive days. Thereafter, acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity was determined in the tissues of the experimental rats. In comparison to the control samples. The results revealed significant (p
