Abstract

ABSTRACT Over the years, the concerns of phenomenologists have bordered on the relationship between consciousness and the world. It is on this note that Aron Gurwitsch sought to contextualize perception and understanding within the broader field of consciousness. He aimed to respond to criticisms of phenomenology, particularly those by Martin Heidegger. Gurwitsch then developed an analysis of the perceptual noema to provide a comprehensive account of conscious experience. Gurwitsch’s work built on Edmund Husserl’s phenomenology, addressing its limitations and neglect of contextual considerations.
