COMPARATIVE ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVIT OF ALLIUM SATIVUM AND SOME COMMON ANTIBIOTICS ON BACTERIA ISOLATES.
Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the comparative antibacterial activities of allium sativum and some common antibiotics on bacteria isolates. The test organisms isolated are Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus spp, Klesiella spp and Bacillus spp and agar well diffusion method was the sensitivity test conducted on the test isolate to determine the zones of inhibition at different concentration (100%, 50% and 25%, 12.5%). The zones of inhibition of Allium sativum extracts on ethanoic extract ranged from 03mm to 21mm, while the control ciprofloxacin ranged from 18mm to 36mm. The aqueous extracts ranged from 03mm to 11mm while the result of ciprofloxacin control ranged from 18mm to 36mm. The highest yield potential was obtained from ethanol followed by aqueous extracts respectively. The minimum inhibitory concentration which ranged from 12.5% and 50% in the aqueous and ethanol extract were positive on the tested organisms 12.5%. This study revealed that Allium sativum extract can be used as effective antibacterial agents for pathogenic microorganisms. Allium sativum has higher (wide spectrum) antibacterial activity agent.
