Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by persistent hyperglycemia, often leading to systemic inflammation and hepatic dysfunction. This study investigated the assay of ALP, GGT, and IL-6 levels in STZ-induced male diabetic rats treated with biosynthesized silver nanoparticles. Twenty-four (24) rats were subjected to high fat diet for 14 days to induce obesity before subsequent administration of streptozotocin (STZ) to develop an animal model of type 2 diabetes. Rat pellets were enriched with margarine and egg yolk. Each of the four groups making 24 animals were given one egg yolk mixed with 15.6g of margarine daily. At the end of 14 days, animals were fasted for 10 hours overnight and induced with type 2 diabetes by single intra-peritoneal administration of 45mg/kg body weight of streptozotocin (STZ) reconstituted in citrate buffer. After 48 hours of post-STZ injection, fasting blood glucose sugar (FBS) level was determined with a Fine test glucometer, using blood obtained from the tail vein puncture. Rats with FBS blood glucose of 200mg/dl and above were considered diabetic and shared into four (4) different groups alongside the normal control group of six (6) making a total of 30 animals. Animals were grouped as follows: Group I - Normal control (placebo treatment), group II - diabetic control (not treated), group III – Metformin treatment group (200mg/kg), group IV - silver nanoparticle treatment group (20mg/kg), and group V- Moringa oleifera treatment group (20mg/kg). All Treatment lasted for fourteen (14) days. The animals were sacrificed 24hrs after the last administration prior to a 10hrs fast and blood was collected via cardiac puncture for biochemical analysis. All treatment groups, MET, AgNps and MO showed improvements compared to the diabetic control. Results analysis Showed that AgNps significantly reduced IL-6 (109.176±12.92) against diabetic control (175.120±8.96) at p
