Abstract

ABSTRACT This project proposes the establishment of a Faculty of Architecture at the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Calabar, to address the absence of formal architectural training within the institution. Using a mixed-methods research design, the study integrates qualitative and quantitative approaches to assess user needs, site conditions, and institutional requirements. Stakeholders including students, staff, and administrators were consulted to ensure a user centered and functional outcome. The design concept emphasizes sustainability, cultural relevance, and flexibility, aligning with global trends in architectural education. The proposed faculty accommodates four departments Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Architectural Technology, and Interior Design supported by studios, workshops, laboratories, and administrative spaces. Attention is given to effective circulation, structural systems, and compliance with National Universities Commission (NUC) standards. The project aims to enhance architectural education in Cross River State, positioning UNICROSS as a hub for design, research, and innovation, while delivering a facility that reflects both environmental responsiveness and cultural identity. Keywords: Architecture, UNICROSS, sustainable design, education, culture.
