Abstract

The project presents its methodology together with its outcomes which demonstrate the process of choosing and defining an appropriate inverter for a solar power system that uses 5kVA to power the Computer Engineering Department. The team performed an energy audit which revealed that essential equipment including computers printers and office equipment consumed 8830 Wh of energy daily. The inverter functions as the central intelligent component of the hybrid solar system which combines solar power with batteries and grid electricity to achieve optimal performance and dependable operation. The system required a 5 kVA hybrid grid-tied inverter which operated with 48V DC input to fulfill its voltage and load specifications. The analysis between transformer-based and transformerless topologies resulted in selecting a transformer-based inverter because it outperformed others by providing better surge capacity for motor startups and its essential galvanic isolation feature which protects sensitive electronic devices. The inverter needs to produce pure sine wave output with total harmonic distortion below 3 percent to safeguard computers and laboratory equipment from harm. The system demands MPPT charge control together with anti-islanding protection (UL 1741/IEC 62109) and Wi-Fi/Ethernet monitoring and generator start function and programmable energy management modes as essential system components. The chosen inverter system provides two essential functions which enable automatic grid connection during power interruptions while it assists customers in generating income through net metering. The inverter selection delivers excellent power quality through its reliable operation which generates cost savings and complete compatibility with solar panels and battery storage systems making it the best sustainable energy solution for educational and computing facilities.
