Abstract

The research titled "Isolation and Identification of Sorbitol Non-Fermenting E. coli from Poultry chicken" aimed to isolate and characterize sorbitol non-fermenting E. coli (SNFE) strains from poultry chicken. A total of 25 poultry samples, including knives, carcass, feces, hands, and water from various slaughterhouses, were collected for this study. The results revealed that SNFE strains were present in 44% of the samples, with the highest occurrence found in knives (80%) and carcass (60%). The antibiotic resistance profile of the SNFE strains showed 100% resistance to gentamycin, augmentin, flacin, and ceporex, and high resistance rates to erythromycin, cefuroxine, amoxil, and azithromycin, indicating significant challenges in managing these infections with conventional antibiotics. The study concluded that SNFE strains are prevalent in poultry processing environments and exhibit high levels of antibiotic resistance, which poses a substantial risk to food safety and public health. It is recommended to implement stringent hygiene practices and regular disinfection protocols in poultry processing facilities to prevent the spread of SNFE strains and minimize the risk of foodborne illnesses.
