Abstract

Newbouldia laevis is a medicinal plant traditionally used for it potential commonly in Africa (west and north) where it is dominant. This study reveals the effect of Newbouldia laevis leaf fraction on the blood glucose level or concentration of alloxan induced diabetic rats. (24) Wistar albino male rats were utilized, distributed into six (6) groups, each of the groups accommodating four (4) rats. Group 1 considered as the normal (were not induced or treated), group 2 served as the positive control (were induced but not treated, group 3 as the standard control were induced and treated with glibenclamide dose of 5mg/kg) group 4, 5, 6 (induced and treated with 100mg/kg, 200mg/kg, 400mg/kg) respectively with Newbouldia laevis leaf fraction, the treatment duration was for 14 days. Blood glucose was measured using standard methods; the use of glucometer. Administration of newbouldia laevis fraction exhibited a notable decrease (p
