THE EFFECTS OF THE TELEVISION PROGRAMME BEN 10 ON CHILDREN’S SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR IN JIMETA, YOLA NORTH LGA, ADAMAWA STATE, NIGERIA
Abstract
The study investigates the effects of the television programme Ben 10 on children’s social behaviour in Jimeta, Yola North LGA. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected from 300 children, 50 parents, and 50 teachers through questionnaires, interviews, and observations. Findings reveal that frequent exposure to Ben 10 is associated with increased aggressive tendencies, imitation of characters, and reduced adherence to traditional cultural values such as respect for elders. However, the programme also promotes courage and problem-solving in some cases. The study concludes that while Ben 10 has both positive and negative influences, lack of parental mediation amplifies negative behavioural outcomes. Recommendations emphasize media literacy, parental supervision, and policy regulation.
