INFLUENCE OF CROPPING SYSTEMS ON SELECTED SOIL PHYSICOCHEMICAL PROPERTIES IN THE CROSS RIVER BASIN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (CRBDA) FARM, ABAK, AKWA IBOM STATE
Abstract
ABSTRACT
The influence of cropping systems on soil characteristics is a crucial area of study in agricultural research, particularly within regions characterized by fragile soil compositions, such as the Cross River Basin Development Authority (CRBDA) in Abak, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. A sustainable cropping system ensures biological sustainability by restoring and protecting life support systems through reducing contamination of air, water, and soil by reducing or eliminating the use of biocides and fertilizers. Cropping patterns enhance biotic diversity. This occurs by introduction of new species into the agro-ecosystem and employing mixed cropping patterns for diversification of the ecosystem.
