Abstract

Tourism plays a crucial role in global economic growth, cultural preservation, and sustainable development. However, in Nigeria, limited technological integration and inadequate visitor information systems have hindered the full potential of the tourism sector. To address this challenge, this project focuses on the design and implementation of a Web-Based Tourist Guide System for the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta, aimed at enhancing visitor engagement and improving access to tourism information. The system provides an interactive digital platform where users can explore attractions, access real-time updates on events, and view detailed information about various locations within OOPL. Administrators can efficiently manage content through a secure backend interface. The project adopts a three-tier system architecture—comprising the presentation layer (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), application layer (PHP), and data layer (MySQL)—to ensure scalability, flexibility, and performance. The findings demonstrate that integrating web-based technologies into tourism management enhances user experience, promotes cultural education, and increases accessibility for both local and international tourists. This project contributes to the ongoing digital transformation of Nigeria’s tourism industry and supports sustainable development through information technology.
