Abstract

This project designed and implemented an embedded Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled gate tallying access control system, utilizing the ESP32-CAM module paired with QR code authentication to enhance security measures. The traditional access control methods often face significant security challenges. The system designed effectively addresses the limitation of the traditional gate with the introduction of QR code validation, and advanced IoT-based logging mechanisms. The ESP32-CAM served dual purpose: it captures high-quality images and decodes QR codes with remarkable efficiency. Upon scanning, the system validates each QR code against a set of predefined criteria, which include dynamic day-based access permissions tailored to accommodate varying access needs for different user groups. This addition ensures that access is not only controlled but also adaptable to specific timeframes, enhancing security protocols. To facilitate user interaction, a dynamic web dashboard was developed using React, which allows administrators to easily generate and distribute unique QR codes. This digital access token system provides a seamless user experience while ensuring quick and efficient distribution of credentials.
