Abstract

An electronic record is defined as the electronic version of a patient's medical history that a healthcare provider has kept for a period of time. It includes all crucial administrative clinical data that is associated with the care provided to a person by a specific provider, including demographic, progress reports, problem, medication, important sign, medical history, immunization reports, laboratory data, and radiology reports. Most healthcare facilities and organizations still use paper to record patient information, which has resulted in a significant paper trail (Akanbi, et al, 2021). Despite the benefits, the EHR system added a level of security that allows nefarious individuals to access patient information in digital form. A number of security measures must be implemented in order to protect the EHR system. Several protections cannot be implemented due to budgetary restrictions in public health institutions, hence a model must be created to help execute these security measures while keeping these restrictions in mind (Benaloh et al, 2018). The aim is to study the assessment of security concerns in electronic health records utilization, using Federal Medical Center, Ebute Metta, Lagos as a case study. A descriptive research design was adopted in conducting this study, questionnaire was used for data collection in this research. The study reviewed that 97 (88.2%) consider collaboration between healthcare institutions and cybersecurity experts essential. This was in line withCollaboration with cybersecurity specialists enhances threat detection and response capabilities in healthcare (Alharthi et al., 2021). In conclusion, to safeguard patient information and ensure the sustainability of EHR systems, Federal Medical Center, Ebute Metta and indeed other healthcare institutions in Nigeria must prioritize security as a core element of health information management. Invest in reliable hardware and software solutions that support secure EHR functionalities, including firewalls, antivirus software, and intrusion detection systems
