Abstract

Asthma is a heterogeneous disease characterized by a chronic inflammatory condition affecting the airways of the lungs. It is a common lung disease that causes narrowing of the airways and results in breathing difficulties. Genotype refers to the alleles, or variant forms of a gene, that are carried by an organism. The study aims in the evaluation of the genotype and haemoglobin estimation of asthmatic patients. In this study, a total of 37 samples were used for the study. 27 served as the test subject; 10 subjects were used as the control. Cyanmethamoglobin method was used for the estimation of hemoglobin, Alkaline Cellulose Acetate method was used for Genotype estimation and microhematocrit method was used for PCV estimation. The data gotten were analyzed using independent sample t-test and analysis of variants (ANOVA) which were used to compare the mean ± S.D. Values obtain were considered significant at p0.05.The results shows a decrease P>0.05 in the mean value of the Haemoglobin level (12.13 ± 3.02, 12.73 ± 1.08P=0.57) indicating statistically not significant (P>0.05). The result also shows there is an increase P
