EVALUATION OF THE FERTILITY STATUS OF FADAMA SOILS IN GADAU METROPOLIS, ITAS-GADAU LGA, BAUCHI STATE
Abstract
This study evaluates the fertility status of Fadama soils in Gadau metropolis, Itas-Gadau Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Nigeria. Soil samples were collected from selected locations within the Fadama lands and analyzed for physical and chemical properties including pH, organic matter, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and texture. The results indicate variability in nutrient levels, with some areas showing moderate fertility while others exhibit deficiencies in essential nutrients. The findings highlight the need for proper soil management practices such as organic amendments and balanced fertilizer application to enhance productivity. The study provides valuable insights for farmers and policymakers aiming to improve sustainable agricultural practices in the region.
