Abstract

ABSTRACT Phytochemical studies on Monodoramyristica seeds have revealed the presence of various phytochemicals, including essential oils, phenolic compounds, alkaloids, lignans, fatty acids, proteins, and amino acids. These compounds have been associated with antioxidant, antimicrobial, and potentially other health-promoting properties. The sample of monodoramyristica (seeds) were collected in the month of October, 2023. attalatamafara local government area in Zamfara state. Flavonoids have not been found in the analysis. Someglycosides have been found in the analysis with (2.50%)The research work of (udofia 2005 ) and(nwachukwu 2010) found large amounts of saponins with(12.04%) (enabulele 2014) has been found the low content of flavonoids. In the same way, the research of(enabulele2014)showed a moderate content of Tannins with(2.60%) Likewise, some glycosides have been found in moderate and low contents by (udofia2005)and (nwachukwu 2010) This variation could be attributed to many factors, such as climatic, edaphic and time of exposure to dryness. Such differences may arise from variations in soil micronutrients. It could also be partly attributed to the method of analysis (Bilmakr m. 2010) Phytochemical analysis revealed flavonoids, saponins, tannins, alkaloid, glycosides,. The seeds may be a source of antioxidants. The relatively high nutritive values of African nutmeg may be of little importance in everyday life since the quantity of this spice using in cuisine is relatively very small. African nutmeg is consumed in as food ingredients in low content, and its contribution to nutrition in diet may not be as high as the staple food items
