Abstract

Pericopsis laxiflora (Benth. ex Baker) Meeuwen is a small to medium-sized deciduous tree belonging to the Fabaceae family. It is widely distributed across tropical regions of West and Central Africa, especially in savannah woodlands and dry forests. The plant is recognized by its compound leaves, pale yellow flowers, and flattened pods. It thrives in well-drained soils and is often used in agroforestry systems for soil enrichment and shade. In many rural communities, Pericopsis laxiflora plays a dual role as both an ecological and medicinal plant, reflecting its broad adaptability and significance in traditional life (Orwa et al., 2009).
