EXPLORING PARATRANSIT USER EXPERIENCES AND PREFERENCES FOR TRAVEL RELATED INFORMATION
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study delves into the experiences, challenges, and preferences of public transportation users in Calabar, Nigeria, specifically focusing on paratransit services like minibuses, tricycles, and taxis. By analyzing demographic data, trip characteristics, and user-reported issues, the research reveals common problems such as reckless driving, overcrowding, fare instability, and conflicts with transportation personnel. Descriptive statistic was used in this study to get the analysis. A key finding is the strong demand for real-time information systems (RTI) to provide users with timely updates on travel times, vehicle arrivals, and service delays. Through surveys of 179 respondents, the study offers valuable insights into the transportation needs of Calabar residents. The findings underscore the need for improved safety measures, more transparent fare systems, and the implementation of technology-driven solutions to enhance user experiences. Recommendations include the development of RTI systems via mobile apps and SMS stricter safety regulations, and enhanced training for drivers and conductors.
