Abstract

Fuel subsidy removal has remained one of the most debated economic policies in Nigeria due to its impact on living conditions and market prices. This study investigates the effect of fuel subsidy removal on commodity prices and household income among residents of Makurdi. A descriptive survey research design was adopted, and data were collected using structured questionnaires administered to residents. The findings revealed that fuel subsidy removal significantly increased transportation costs, commodity prices, and household expenses, thereby reducing purchasing power and household income stability. The study concludes that while subsidy removal may have economic benefits for government revenue, it has created financial hardship for many households.
