Abstract

Hesperidin 1s a member of the flavanone chemical subclass, which is one of the flavonoids. It is used as a radioprotector and in the treatment of neurological and psychiatric disorders, cancer, cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and other conditions. Thus, this present study aim to explore and evaluate the potential neuroprotective role of hesperidin in mitigating or preventing prefrontal cortical neurodegeneration in albino wistar mice. A total of 20 adult male albino wistar rats, randomed into 4 groups ; 1,2,3,4,5, were used each comprising of five mice. Group 1: (control group), animals received water and food only. Group 2: (Aluminum chloride) animals received AICI3 at a dose of (100mg/kg) only for 1 week. Group 3: (high dose of hesperidin) animals received aqueous extract of hesperidin dose (100mg/kg) only for 2 weeks also per body weight of mice. Group 4: (low dose of hesperidin and aluminum chloride) animals received aqueous extract of hesperidin dose of 50mg/kg for 2 weeks + AICI3 dose of 0.03ml of 100mg/kg for 1 week per body weight of mice. The result showed a significant difference when hesperidin is used as a protective substance against neurodegeneration.
