EVALUATION OF ANNUAL TEMPERATURE TREND IN RIVERS, NIGERIA
Abstract
This study was carried out to investigate “Evaluation of Annual Temperature Trend in Rivers, Nigeria” with two objective of the study, The study is to evaluate the annual trend of temperature in Rivers State, Nigeria. Wherein there are numerous meteorological parameters, the study will focus only on one meteorological parameter which is average temperature. Literature of the study review that Trend of temperature have been studied by several researchers across the world and the country in different locations. This chapter will take a look at some of the work done by researchers in the field across the world and most especially within the Southern part of the country where Rivers State is located. Temperature scales are based on fixed points which are the ice point and the steam point. The ice point is the temperature at which pure ice melts under an external pressure of normal atmosphere while the steam point is the temperature at which pure water boils under an external pressure of one standard atmosphere, In this research work, the material used was average temperature data. The Origin Pro software was used to analyze the data. The Average Temperature data was collected from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) between the period1980 to 2020. In conclusion: There is an increase in the annual average temperature of Rivers State Nigeria. Human activities such as burning of fossil fuels and other harmful gases into atmosphere, deforestation to mention but a few, has led to the Ozone layer depletion, consequently increasing the average global temperature of the earth’s surface (global warming). To avoid such, there is need to monitor our climate.
