THE EFFECT OF ETHANOL LEAF EXTRACTS OF ANDROGRAPHIS PANICULATA ON GLYCATED HAEMOGLOBIN IN STREPTOZOTOCIN INDUCED DIABETIC WISTAR RATS
Abstract
Glycoslated hemoglobin (HbA1c) is an index of estimated average blood glucose 0 ,Cr :,.;-g :

| (ndrographis paniculata on glycated haemoglobin in streptozotocin-induced diabetic Wistai
ats. A total of twenty five (25) female Wistar rats weighing between 200-300z were used 1
the experiment. These were grouped into normal control and diabetic induced groups. Group
A: Normal control animals fed with standard rat pellets and tap water for three (3) weeks.
Group B: (Negative control) diabetic control animals induced with STZ for seven days and
daily oral administration of 0.2% twin 80 for two weeks, Group C: Induced diabetes with
| gTZ for seven days and treated with glycated hemoglobin (20mg/kg body weight) orally for
two weeks, Group D: Induced diabetes with STZ for seven days and administercd orallv

Group E: Induced diabetes with STZ for seven days and administered orally 1000mg ke bods
weight Andrographis paniculata ethanol leaf extract daily for two weeks. At the end of the
second weeks, the Wistar rats were euthanized by a brief exposure to chloroform in an airtight
desiccator. The whole blood were collected into plain tubes was allowed 1o clot lor

The result revealed that there was significantly higher percentage (P
