Abstract

ABSTRACT This study examines the temperature humidity index (THI) in Minna, Niger State, to evaluate the extent of heat stress experience in the heat region. Using meterological data over the period of 10 years (2005-2014). The research analyzes the variation in temperature and relative humidity to determine monthly average and annual average temperature-relative index (THI). The THI values ranges between 29 and 40, indicating a high potential for heat stress among residents and vulnerable population. The temperature ranges of the study area for the period of (2005-2014) is 100C (320C-220C). The relative humidity ranges of the study area for the period of the study is 53%0 (88%-35%). The slope value of the trend line as revealed in this equation shows that, from year to another, temperature and relative changes with the values by 0.036 and 0.470 respectively. that the THI ranges between 29 and 40. These levels suggest a significant potential for heat stress which can impact human health, productivity, and overall well-being. The findings highlights that Minna experiences high THI consistent with tropical weather conditions, especially during peak hot months.
