Abstract

This project developed and implemented a reliable power and energy management system for the MV Blue Ocean Water Hyacinth Harvester to ensure stable operation of critical onboard components in the challenging Niger Delta environment. A dual-power architecture was adopted, with an IC engine–powered AC system driving the conveyor motor and a 24 V DC battery system supplying the trimmer and actuator, thereby improving system reliability and ease of fault isolation. Load analysis, appropriate component selection, structured wiring, and protective devices were incorporated into the design, and testing confirmed stable performance without electrical faults, voltage drops, or overheating. The findings validate the effectiveness of the adopted power management approach and highlight its suitability as a practical and maintainable model for future locally fabricated marine harvesting systems, while recommending further improvements through real-time monitoring, advanced battery technologies, and extended endurance testing.
