EVALUATION OF WELFARE SYSTEM ON WORKERS’ COMMITMENT IN ABRAHAM ADESANYA POLYTECHNIC
Abstract
The study evaluated the impact of the welfare system on workers’ commitment at Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, Ijebu-Igbo. Welfare systems represent structured policies and programs designed to enhance employee well-being, motivation, and loyalty within an organization. The study adopted a descriptive research design, and data were collected through structured questionnaires administered to selected staff of the Polytechnic. The population comprised 245 staff members, from which a sample size of 152 respondents was drawn using a simple random sampling technique. Data collected were presented in tabular form and analyzed using regression statistics. The study aimed to examine the impact of statutory and voluntary welfare systems on workers’ commitment at Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic. The findings revealed that the statutory welfare system has a significant and positive effect on workers’ commitment. This implies that when essential welfare benefits such as pension schemes, health insurance, and paid leave are adequately provided, employees demonstrate stronger loyalty, job satisfaction, and willingness to achieve organizational objectives. Furthermore, the study established that the voluntary welfare system also has a significant influence on workers’ commitment. Non-mandatory benefits such as transport allowances, recreational facilities, professional development opportunities, and recognition initiatives were found to boost employee morale and strengthen commitment levels. The study concluded that both statutory and voluntary welfare systems significantly enhance workers’ commitment at Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, Ijebu-Igbo. It was recommended that management should sustain and improve existing statutory welfare provisions and complement them with voluntary welfare programs that foster motivation, job satisfaction, and long-term dedication among staff.
