Abstract

Rhizosphere microorganisms enhance the growth of many plants. This study aimed at assessing the growth enhancement potentials of bacteria and fungi from the rhizosphere of Rice. The objectives were to determine the ability of the isolates on degradative enzymes. The soil texture was determined using soil hydrometer, pH with pH meter, moisture content by oven-drying of soil at 105oC for 24 hours, organic matter by heating of the oven dried soil in a furnace at 600oC for 2 hours and water holding capacity (WHC) by saturation of the oven-dried soil with distilled water. assesed using soil dilution and agar diffusion methods respectively. soil texture (sandy, loam), soil pH (5.49±0.03 – 8.15±0.02), moisture (0.10±0.00 – 1.22±0.02 %), organic matter (1.53±0.35 – 42.45±0.78 g/kg), and WHC (43.34±0.25 – 53.75±0.54 %). Bacterial and fungal counts in the rhizosphere ranged from 5.68 x 103 – 6.1 x 107 and 1.27 x 102 – 3.02 x105 CFU/g respectively. Bacterial genera identified were, The study concluded that some of the rhizosphere isolates can be used to remedy some fungi pathogens of
