Abstract

This project focuses on developing a modern, automated movie booking system to address inefficiencies in creating multiple web applications for different cinemas and manual reservation methods. Traditional systems, reliant on paper records and manual processes, often result in errors, delays, and overbookings, especially during peak times. The new solution reduces the need for individual cinema applications by offering a unified platform where multiple cinemas can easily register and upload their shows. This single, streamlined application improves efficiency and accessibility for cinema owners. The project was built using the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, and Node.js), covering both backend and frontend operations. MongoDB's NoSQL architecture provided flexible and scalable data storage for managing bookings and movie details. Express.js handled backend development and RESTful APIs, while React.js, upgraded to Next.js 14, powered a dynamic and responsive user interface. Node.js ensured cross-platform compatibility and smooth backend performance. The Unified Process (UP) methodology guided the system's development, using iterative phases—Inception, Elaboration, Construction, and Transition allowing for continuous testing, feedback, and improvement. This approach resulted in a robust, scalable platform that supports multiple cinema owners within a single application, maintaining high performance, security, and efficient data management. The system effectively addresses challenges like data redundancy, privacy concerns, and operational scalability, offering a comprehensive solution that enhances booking efficiency and customer satisfaction in the movie industry.
