Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study examined the impact of ethical behaviours on the productivity of secretaries in an organization using Talata Mafara Local Government Secretariat as a case study. The study was conducted to determine how ethical conduct such as honesty, punctuality, confidentiality, loyalty, responsibility, and integrity influence the efficiency and effectiveness of secretaries in performing their duties. The research adopted a survey research design, while questionnaires and interviews were used as instruments for data collection. Data collected were analyzed using tables and simple percentage methods. The findings of the study revealed that ethical behaviour has a significant positive impact on the productivity of secretaries in the organization. The study also discovered that unethical practices such as lateness, absenteeism, dishonesty, negligence of duty, and leakage of confidential information negatively affect organizational performance and service delivery. Furthermore, the study identified some challenges affecting ethical behaviour among secretaries, including lack of motivation, poor supervision, inadequate training, and weak enforcement of organizational policies. Based on the findings, the study recommended that organizations should organize regular training on professional ethics, enforce ethical standards, provide adequate motivation for employees, and encourage discipline, honesty, and accountability among secretaries. The study concluded that ethical behaviour is essential for improving the productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness of secretaries in any organization
