Abstract

ABSTRACT This project focuses on the DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A TWO-BEDROOM FLAT ELECTRICAL WIRING TRAINER based on the wiring layout of a two-bedroom flat. The trainer Is intended as an educational tool for students in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Akwa Ibom State University, allowing hands-on experience in electrical wiring principles. The unique feature of the trainer is its external wiring configuration using probes and connectors, enabling students to carry out practical wiring tasks with the aid of a user manual. The design process involved selecting appropriate components such as light fixtures, switches, sockets, circuit breakers, and an earthing system, while adhering to standard wiring codes, preferably the IEEE standards. The trainer is built to demonstrate various electrical circuits, including lighting, power, and control circuits, with an emphasis on safety through the use of circuit protection and earthing. Local balancing is a key consideration, ensuring that the electrical loads are evenly distributed across the circuits to avoid overloading. The Inclusion of earthing further enhances safety by preventing electrical shocks and ensuring proper grounding in the event of a fault. The trainer provides a practical understanding of how electrical circuits are designed, connected, and tested, and simulates real-world wiring scenarios in residential settings. In conclusion, the Electrical Wiring Trainer offers a comprehensive learning platform for students, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application in electrical wiring. This project contributes to enhancing the practical skills of future engineers, preparing them for real world challenges in the field of electrical engineering.
