Abstract

ABSTRACT This project focuses on the design, construction, and installation of a smart 5kVA solar power system specifically for the Electrical/Electronic Engineering Department at Akwa Ibom State University. The increasing need for renewable energy solutions, alongside the demand for sustainable power sources in academic environments, has motivated this endeavor. The system combines solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, a battery storage unit, an inverter, and an intelligent control system to maximize energy efficiency. The design phase includes determining the department's energy requirements, selecting the most suitable components, and developing a robust, scalable, and efficient system. Advanced monitoring and control capabilities are integrated to provide real-time data collection, performance evaluation, and remote management, thereby boosting the system's effectiveness. The construction phase involves assembling the system's components, followed by extensive testing to ensure they meet safety and operational standards. The installation phase involves strategically positioning the solar panels, completing the necessary wiring, and integrating the system with the department's existing electrical infrastructure. Upon completion, the smart 5kVA solar power system is projected to offer a sustainable, cost-efficient, and eco-friendly energy solution, reducing reliance on the national grid and lowering carbon emissions. This project exemplifies the application of renewable energy technologies in academic settings and supports the university's sustainability goals.
