PUBLIC RELATIONS IN GOVERNMENT HOSPITAL A STUDY OF GENERAL HOSPITAL, ERUWA
Abstract
This study examines the role of public relations in government hospitals, with a focus on General Hospital, Eruwa. The research was conducted to determine how public relations practices influence the hospital’s image, patient satisfaction, and communication effectiveness between staff and the public. The study employed a descriptive survey research design, using structured questionnaires administered to hospital staff and patients. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics to identify patterns in communication practices, public engagement, and the perception of the hospital’s public relations activities.
Findings revealed that effective public relations strategies, including timely information dissemination, patient feedback mechanisms, and community outreach programs, significantly enhance the hospital’s image and strengthen trust between patients and staff. However, challenges such as inadequate resources, limited staff training, and inconsistent communication were found to hinder optimal public relations practices. The study concludes that public relations is a crucial tool for government hospitals in managing reputation, improving patient care, and fostering positive relationships with the public. Recommendations include regular staff training, strategic communication planning, and increased investment in public relations activities to improve service delivery and community perception.
